During the first quarter of 2017, Lance Milbrand of Milbrand Cinema made steady headway by shooting new footage for the giant screen film. Accompanied by editor David Choice, the two worked with the staff at Anthony’s Key Resort and the Roatán Institute for Marine Science. Additional footage was captured along the island of Utila with help by the Utila Water Sports Dive Center and the Utila Dream Ferry.
Milbrand Cinema is actively seeking tourism, corporate, foundation and individual financial sponsorship for its dolphin film. MacGillivray Freeman Films (MFF) provided this project with a letter of support to potentially pursue marketing and distribute of the project upon its completion. MFF is a world leader in creating and distributing environmental films in large format.
Our newest five-minute trailer was shown on the giant screen at the AMC Navy Pier this September. Edited by David Choice, music Eddie Freeman, narration Shelly Baldiga the story follows the connection between a special dolphin named Han and the people who have contact with him daily. MacGillivray Freeman Films is the projects distributor and will take in active role in fundraising.
Han the Dolphin is special because his life has bridged two worlds, one as a wild dolphin, and the other as part of a group of dolphins under managed care.
Last October, the Giant Screen Cinema Association projected our dolphin trailer to a large audience of IMAX giant screen theater owners and managers. Out of the 27 films shown, In the Wake of the Dolphin scored number seven! The audience really liked our story and the cinematography, but overall, they were not attracted to the title. We discovered the majority of movie titles tend to be one, two or three words. We changed our five-word title to a three-word title, and the new title is, drum roll please… The Dolphin Ambassador.
The main character, a dolphin named Han is a true wildlife ambassador. Han’s life has bridged two worlds, one of living in the wild and the other living within managed care. Every day, Han and some of his buddies are allowed to swim outside their dolphin enclosure and they always choose to come back. Han allows us a connection with marine mammals that is unique and very special, Han is The Dolphin Ambassador.
In October, my wife Jeanne and I traveled to Toronto, Canada for the annual Giant Screen Cinema Association event. Our five-minute concept film was shown to museum owners and managers and it was very well received, garnering above average scores.
